June: My Favorites
Hey guys! I’m home! I’ve been out of town and out of the country for just under a month and as fun as the last couple weeks have been… I’m so happy to be back in my own bed! My internal clock is still way off (I was up at 3AM this morning to start my day) but it feels good to be back in the the cool southern California breeze and driving my own car. I’ll make sure to share more about my recent adventures soon!
I know that it’s a week late, but here are some of my favorite things from the month of June. Click here to see my favorites from the month of May.
Music | Megan Davies
This has been on the top viral music charts for a little bit, and rightfully so! The song above is a mash-up/remix of three top songs, stripped to a basic acoustic version. It’s absolutely beautiful and relaxing and a gorgeous testament to the three popular songs. Megan Davies regularly posts these kinds of acoustic covers on her Soundcloud page – check it out.
Movie | Inside Out
DO NOT BE DECEIVED: this movie is as much for adults as it is for young children. I am rather partial to Disney Pixar movies to begin with, but for the first time in a long time I went into one of their movies with low expectations. Maybe it was the colors and childlike-cartoonish commercials, but I was expecting nothing more than a cute little movie I could bring over to houses I babysit for. Boy, was I wrong. THIS MOVIE IS INCREDIBLE. One of the better Pixar movies, for sure. (and they’re all top-notch!)
Without giving any specific spoilers, let me close this off with a warning: bring tissues.
Read | Relevant Magazine
Relevant Magazine is a self-described as, “a magazine covering faith, culture and intentional living – the stories we tell are at the intersection of where a Christ-centered life is really lived.” I have been subscribed to Relevant Magazine for about two years now and it is one of my favorite reads already. I particularly liked the May/June issue this month that headlined Hillsong United’s plans with Hollywood. The subject of Christianity and the entertainment business mixing has always been a controversial one that greatly interests me.

Podcast | “Undisclosed: The State Vs. Adnan Syed”
I know I’ve mentioned before how completely riveted and obsessed I was with the Serial Podcast while in it’s heyday during 2014. I’ve always been interested in true crime novels and tv shows; it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure. I was slightly devastated when Serial ended; I needed to know more! Well, as luck would have it, there was a lot more to find out. Undisclosed has been running for a few weeks know, and it is hosted by three legal attorneys. This differs from the journalist-hosted Serial; this podcast delves even further into the justice system and the legalities revolving a capital murder case.
In my personal opinion, it is not an entirely unbiased view of the case, but the attorneys hosting truly do not intentionally tier evidence one way or the other. Regardless, I love listening and analyzing the data they collect alongside them. I highly recommend this podcast to those who enjoyed Serial! And if you haven’t yet listened to the most downloaded podcast of all time, listen to Serial first!

Beauty | Sally Hansen Miracle Gel
So, I was gone for a long time! I was on vacation, rolling around in sand and salt water and then I was working at a summer camp, rock climbing and doing burpees in the grass. Ever since I quit biting my nails after twenty years of the bad habit, I’ve always appreciated having long and pretty nails. My biggest issue was finding something that wouldn’t chip throughout all of that activity! Before I left home, I dropped by Target to blindly pick a nail polish and pray it would last. Without any prior knowledge, I bought the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in the color titled “Mad Woman”. Perfect summer color. Painted my nails and bam! It didn’t chip for almost three whole weeks! (which as far as I’m concerned, is unheard of unless you paid a lot of money at a salon.) I got a lot of compliments and was grateful I didn’t have to touch it up.
Purchase at your local drugstore or on www.sallyhansen.com.
